Hearts Full, Hands Dirty: A Day with St. Monica’s Children’s Home
By John Doe Fabric Analyst
Some days don’t feel like work…
When we pulled into St. Monica’s Children’s Home in Juja, we weren’t sure what to expect. Maybe a few hours of volunteering, some smiles, and a group photo. What we got was something else entirely: a deeply moving experience that left each of us changed.
Stepping In Where We're Needed
We split up and got to it—laundry, cleaning, organizing supplies, hanging clothes to dry in the sun. There’s no shortcut when you're doing it by hand. But none of us were in a rush. Every folded shirt, every clean floor, every trip to the drying lines felt like a quiet way to say: we see you, and we care.
It’s easy to forget how much dignity lives in the everyday chores—until you do them for someone else.
The Joy Was Loud
Then came the kids. And suddenly the place was bursting with color, music, stories, football kicks, messy paint, and wild laughter.
We painted together. We danced. We had moments of quiet, too—sitting beside a child deep in thought, drawing something that mattered to them. Some told us stories. Others just held our hands.
Then they challenged us to a football match.
Let the record show: they beat us fair and square. No mercy. No rematch. Just a beautiful, joyous win that they’ll probably remind us about when we come back—and we absolutely will.
More Than What We Brought
Yes, we came with donations—food, stationery, household supplies, all the essentials. But the real gift? Time. Presence. Listening without distraction. Laughing until our faces hurt. Reminding these kids, in the most human way, that they matter.
We didn’t just drop off boxes. We played. We shared meals. We talked. We did laundry together. It wasn’t a transaction—it was a relationship.
Why This Matters to Us
At Armely, we believe that how you show up outside your business is just as important as what you build inside it.
We do this because our values don’t switch off when the laptops close. Because we live and work in this country. Because these are our communities. Because there are kids out there who need to see the world show up for them and we want to be part of that world.
Giving back is part of our DNA. It's how we keep ourselves grounded. It's how we remind ourselves of what really matters.
Until Next Time, St. Monica’s
We left with full hearts, paint on our shirts, and a renewed sense of purpose. This visit reminded us that meaningful impact isn’t always loud or polished. Sometimes it looks like a clean dorm room, a shared laugh, or a young boy kicking a goal past a grown adult who never stood a chance.
We’ll be back.
Because we don’t just want to build a great company.
We want to build a better world, with our hands, our hearts, and every step we take.
